Aged Care and Community Services
We support and encourage Christian care in all its forms in Lutheran aged care, retirement living and community services. We have a network of service-providers in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia, so you're sure to find the care that's right for you or your loved one.

Welcome!

The phrase ‘Because God loves, we care’ sums up our reasons for wanting to be involved in caring for people, including our older people and those who are struggling and marginalised.
Since the Lutheran Church’s beginnings, serving people in need has been part of its mission and ministry. This is sometimes termed the diaconal ministry. Diakonos is the Greek word for ‘servant’, and its use implies that we are called to serve as we share Jesus’ love. You can find out more in the document ‘God’s love – our care’.
Are you interested in aged care for yourself or a loved one?
This video from Martin Luther Homes in Boronia, VIC provides a snapshot of one of our aged care facilities.
It is important to us that wherever possible we meet people’s physical, social, emotional and spiritual needs. Our aged care services employ chaplains, who care for residents and staff.
Aged care services provided by the LCA include independent living in retirement villages, home care packages that can assist people to remain in their own homes, and residential care for people who require a higher level of care. Residential care can include palliative care and increasingly does so.

Chaplains provide spiritual, emotional and other support for people in specific situations, such as aged care facilities, schools and Early Childhood Services, hospitals, prisons, and other groups in the community.
The LCANZ assists chaplains in Lutheran aged-care and community services to deepen their faith and grow in their understanding of the ministry of care in Lutheran communities. We have developed an accreditation process for lay chaplains.
Ministry with the Ageing

The Lutheran Church recognises the continuum of our spiritual journey from birth to death. We
appreciate that our faith community is the anchor from which we gain love, guidance, strength and
security throughout our lives. In the Scriptures, respect for older people is clear.
As family, friends and faith communities, it is important to consider ways that older people can
contribute to the mission of the church and derive spiritual enrichment and growth to the end of
life’s journey.
